Hesston College men’s tennis fell 6-3 to Southwestern Christian University (Bethany, Okla.) Friday afternoon at Hesston College.
Freshman Garrett Roth (Hesston, Kan) defeated Levi Coleman from Southwestern Christian 6-2, 6-2 and Jeff Kauffman (6-2, 2-1*retired) dropped Jacob Nguyen to pick up the singles wins for the Larks. Hesston’s duo of Nadeem Jaber (Jaljulia, Israel) and Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn) won 8-3 to record the Larks’ win in doubles.
Freshman #1 singles Nadeem Jaber battled but ultimately fell short 6-2, 6-4 to the Eagles’ Mitch Vecione. Sophomore Riley Kingsley (Newton, Kan.) nearly knocked off Jose Nino, forcing a tiebreaker before losing 6-2, 5-7, 10-6.
“We lost 9-0 to this team last year so to lose 6-3 today when the weather conditions were far from ideal shows how much we’ve improved already. I look forward to the continued growth of this team as we play ICC tomorrow,” first year head coach Chance Joost commented following the loss.
Next: The Larks will have a quick turnaround before facing Iowa Central Community College on Saturday, April 15. Matches begin at 4 p.m. at a neutral site in Wichita.
