The Hesston college men’s tennis team opened their 2017 home spring schedule hosting the Bethany College Swedes in front of a large crowd at Hesston College. The Larks fell 8-1 to the visitors.
Freshman Garrett Roth (Hesston, Kan.) and sophomore Riley Kingsley (North Newton, Kan.) picked up the Larks lone win in doubles play (8-4) against a talented KCAC team from Lindsborg.
“We competed really well in the beginning. We had a huge crowd that really helped. We really appreciated the support we got from the students and staff of the college,” Head Coach Chance Joost said. Bethany College is one of the larger schools that the Larks will match up with this spring. “We’re getting better, and we’re learning but Bethany is probably going to finish 1 or 2 in the KCAC so we competed well and the results will come if stay to the process.”
Top singles player, Nadeem Jaber, a freshman from Israel, fell to Juan Mateus from Bethany: 6-3, 6-1.
Tennis will be back in action as they host Concordia University at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 5.
