The Hesston College men’s tennis team was defeated by the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes 6-3 on Monday afternoon in Salina.
Freshman Nadeem Jaber (Jaljulia, Israel) rallied to pick up another singles win (6-7, 5-7, 6-1, 11-9) over the Coyotes’ Samir Lopez. Freshman Garrett Roth (Hesston, Kan.) won over Mitchell Byers (6-0, 6-3) to grab the two singles wins for the Larks. Jaber and sophomore Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn.) provided the lone doubles win for Hesston, 9-7.
“We’re learning how to compete. We have to do better and we will,” Head Coach Chance Joost commented. “I have confidence in these guys but they have to have it in themselves which we are growing toward. The off-the-court work will show soon.”
The Larks (1-5) will look to rebound when they host the Barton County Community College Cougars at 9 a.m. before taking on Southwestern College at 5 p.m. on Tuesday March 14 at Hesston High School. Hesston will then take some time off for spring break, before returning to Hesston to host Colorado Christian University, an NCAA DII school, March 22.
