After a preseason scrimmage vs. Tabor College, the Hesston College softball team is ready to get things going. The Larks open their 2017 schedule on the road with a weekend series at Garden City (Kan.) Community College (Feb. 11) and Pratt (Kan.) Community College (Feb. 12).

Head Coach Andrew Sharp, entering his eighth season, is optimistic for a brighter year after a disappointing 2016 season (finishing 17-28). “I’m very excited about this group. We have good depth and talent all around the field.” The Larks have plenty of new faces this spring as they will carry 12 freshmen and eight sophomores on this year’s roster.

Hesston’s schedule features eight games against teams ranked in the preseason top 15 National Junior College Athletic Association poll. Several of these schools are familiar opponents for the Larks: Johnson County #9, Labette #11, Highland #13 and Cowley County #15

The Larks are hoping that this year they can finish over the hump and make a postseason run. “I expect us to take a competitive edge onto the field every time out.” coach Sharp commented. “This group has the potential to advance to post season play.” Softball will open their home schedule at the Hesston City Diamond vs. Central Community College on Valentine’s Day.
