The Hesston College men’s basketball team started the Best Western Cougar Booster Club Classic, hosted by Barton Community College in Great Bend, by dropping the first of two games to Washburn University JV 83-70 on Friday night.
The Ichabods raced out to an early lead in the first half and held on for a comfortable 47-34 halftime lead. The Larks pressed more in the second half, but were unable to slice into the lead trading baskets late in the game.
In the second game on Saturday, the Larks lost to the host Barton CC 80-54. After a competitive first half, the Cougars used an 18-0 run in the second half to separate from the Larks.
Freshman guard Cory Holt (Houston, Texas) and forward Zac Neely (Ada, Okla.) led the Larks in scoring with nine each, while sophomore guard Heath Agnew (Mountain City, Texas) pulled down nine boards.
The losses drop the Larks to 1-2 on the early season while the Cougars climb to 3-0. Hesston College men’s basketball returns to the floor Tuesday night when they travel to Hutchinson (Kan.) to play the Blue Dragons. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
