Larks Volleyball set to open 2014 season

2014 Hesston College Volleyball Team

Head Coach Jessica Cleveland begins her fourth season at the helm of Hesston College Volleyball. Cleveland has assembled a talented and athletic roster she believes can compete in their. In 2013, Region VI members Cowley College (Arkansas City) and Johnson County CC (Overland Park) finished first and third at the NJCAA national tournament.

Four sophomores will lead a roster of 13 as the Larks look forward to an always challenging Region VI schedule. The majority of Cleveland’s roster hails from outside Kansas, with the average distance from home being nearly 400 miles.

“I love the geographic diversity of our roster,” Cleveland said. “With campus and community support, our focus is to make this truly a home-away-from-home experience for our players. Diverse regions bring different levels and styles of play. I’m excited to learn players’ tendencies and styles and to teach them how to adapt to a high level of play.”

Hesston opens with a home triangular Saturday, Aug. 23, against junior varsity squads from Friends University (Wichita) and Bethel College (North Newton). The Larks will compete Aug. 29 to 30 in the Vernon (Texas) Community College Tournament.

“This team has progressed quickly and is fundamentally strong,” Cleveland said. “We’re a solid group in skill and character, and I’m looking forward to getting this season started.”
