The Hesston College men’s tennis team dropped a close 5-4 match to Bethel College JV (North Newton, Kan.) on Thursday, April 3.

Sophomores Drew Hostetler (Goshen, Ind.) and Dominic Murray (Denver) opened up with an impressive 8-2 win at one doubles. Hostetler (three singles) and Kendrik Mast (five singles – Harrisonburg, Va.) recorded straight set wins (7-5, 6-2) and (6-2, 6-2), respectively. Murray fought through a tough 3rd set super tie-breaker closing out the 4th win at 6-4, 5-7, (11-9). The overall match hinged on the one singles match between freshman Eric Cender (Valparaiso, Ind.) and Bethel’s Jenson Kingsley. The two split sets 6-7, 6-4 and went back and forth in the super tie-breaker until Kingsley eventually won the match (8-10).

The Hesston men will host the Cowley College (Arkansas City, Kan.) at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 7.
