Six-run sixth propels Larks to Sunday sweep

The Hesston College baseball team picked up a pair of home wins (7-1, 8-2) over Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa on Sunday, March 30, improving its record to 15-12.

Tied 1-1 heading to the home half of the sixth, the Larks plated six runs to blow open a close game in the opener, giving starter Mangin Chacon (Harlingen, Texas) plenty of breathing room. Chacon tossed seven innings for the win, allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out five.

Jarret Wolf (Sand Springs, Okla.) went 1-for-4 with a double, knocking in two and scoring twice. Zac Pearson (Many, La.) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

The Hesston bats stayed hot in game two, producing runs early and often as the Larks finished off the sweep.

Corey Fowler (Boone, Iowa) enjoyed a 3-for-3 day with a double and two runs scored. Scott Cooper (Sand Springs, Okla.) scored twice in a 2-for-4 effort. Starter Brandon Kutrubs (Brunswick, Ohio) went five innings with five hits and two walks allowed. Kutrubs fanned six in the win. 

Hesston travels to Cloud County CC (Concordia, Kan.) for a 5:30 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday, April 2.
