The Hesston College men’s tennis team dropped its home season opener to Southwestern Christian University (Bethany, Okla.) 8-1 on Friday, March 7.
Hesston had a couple tight matches in singles with freshman Eric Cender (Valparaiso, Ind.) taking the first set to a tie-breaker and sophomore Tyler Roth (Canby, Ore.) dropping two close sets (5-7, 4-6) in his first competitive tennis match. Sophomore Kendrik Mast (Harrisonburg, Va.) recorded the lone match win of the afternoon for the Larks with an impressive come-from-behind win in a third-set tie-breaker 1-6, 6-2, (10-8).
Dominic Murray (Denver) and Ty Coblentz (Goshen, Ind.)) were nearly able to take their doubles match to a tie breaker, dropping it 7-9.
Hesston men’s and women’s tennis teams travels to Doane College (Crete, Neb.) for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday, March 22.
