Ortega pitches Larks to first win of 2013 campaign

The Hesston College baseball team split a double header with Kansas Wesleyan University JV (Salina, Kan.) on Wednesday, Feb. 19, winning the opener 7-2 before dropping a 13-8 nightcap.

Freshman Robert Ortega (Riverside, Calif.) tossed five innings to get the win in game one, allowing just one earned run an six hits and walking none. Nick Yoder (Millersburg, Ohio) enjoyed a 4-for-4 game with a triple, two runs scored and two knocked in. Rene’ Rivera (McGregor, Texas), Jarret Wolf (Sand Springs, Okla.) and Stefon Griddine (Grandview, Mo.) had two hits each.

Cory Kerbs (Nevada, Mo.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in game two.

Now 1-3 on the year, Hesston hosts Bethany College JV (Lindsborg, Kan.) at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20.
