The Hesston College men’s basketball team upended Rhema Bible College (Broken Arrow, Okla.) 81-70 on Monday, Jan. 27, improving its season record to 5-15.
Freshman post Jordan Tanner (Houston) had a breakout game with 28 points 13 rebounds – both game-highs – as the Larks rolled to the road win. Freshman Darrion Martin (Houston) added a double-double of his own with 16 points and 10 boards while handing out seven assists. Malcolm Mann (Plano, Texas) scored 12.
Finding themselves trailing 45-37 at the break, the Larks earned this win on the defensive end, as Rhema managed just 22 percent from the floor in the second half. The Hesston offense, meanwhile, took off to the tune of 14-of-27 (51.9 percent) shooting in the final 20 minutes. Hesston converted 29-of-37 (78.4 percent) free throws overall.
The Larks return home for a key Region VI matchup versus Fort Scott (Kan.) CC at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
