New-look Larks eager to begin 2014 season

2014 Hesston College softball team

Fifth-year Hesston College softball coach Andrew Sharp brings a young, talented roster to the table in preparation of another season.

“I’m pleased with how we’ve progressed to this point,” Sharp said. “We graduated an outstanding class of eight sophomores a year ago, meaning several freshmen will need to step up and contribute immediately for us to be successful.”

Following two non-region dates to start the year, Hesston opens Region VI play with a 3 p.m. double header against Independence (Kan.) Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Hesston Softball finished 16-14 in Region VI play a year ago, good for seventh among 16 schools.

“Region VI Softball is always tough,” Sharp added. “We’ve competed a little better each of the last several years and have another challenge awaiting us this spring.”

The Larks open with a 2 p.m. non-region double header at Tabor College (Hillsboro, Kan.) on Thursday, Feb. 13.
