Hesston College men’s soccer wins

The Hesston College men’s soccer team earned its first win of the year with a 1-0 shutout of Independence (Kan.) CC on Friday, Sept. 27. The victory, earned in front of a large  homecoming crowd, snapped the Larks 10-game skid to start the year.

Mitch Denlinger (Denver, Pa.) scored in the 57th minute to break a scoreless tie. He was assisted by Garrett Byler (Belleville, Pa.). Hesston keeper Jake Pokorney (St Louis, Mo.) stopped three shots, all in the fist half, to earn the shutout in the net.

Both teams had three shots on goal, while Independence held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Hesston looks to make it two-in-a-row when the Larks host Tabor College JV (Hillsboro, Kan.) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
