Maize South’s Brea Pritchett signs with Hesston; becomes school’s first student athlete to sign collegiate letter of intent

History was made Wednesday morning, Dec. 1, when Brea Pritchett, a senior at Maize South High School outside of Wichita, Kan., signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Hesston College. Opened as a new high school just a year ago, this year marks the first time the school has had a senior class. With her commitment to Hesston, Pritchett becomes the first Maize South student athlete to sign a collegiate letter of intent in any sport. A letter-winner as a junior for Maize South, Pritchett also plays club soccer for the Wichita Storm.

Maize South coach Marlon Rios expects Pritchett to contribute in a variety of ways next fall.

“Brea is a versatile player who can play multiple positions,” Rios said. “She is a go-getter who plays hard.”

Hesston College women’s soccer coach Bryan Kehr is excited to have Pritchett join his roster. Early indications are that this year’s recruiting class will have a significant impact on the Hesston program.

“Brea is a great addition to the Hesston College women’s soccer team and the Hesston community,” Kehr said. “In addition to being a gifted athlete and student, Brea is a very affirming teammate.”

An honor roll student at Maize South, Pritchett plans to study education at Hesston. She attends New Spring Church in Wichita. Pritchett is the daughter of Julie Peckham and Kevin Echols.
