Volleyball drops home opener to Labette

The Hesston College volleyball team dropped their home opener versus Labette Community College (Parsons, Kan.) on Wednesday night in straight sets, 24-26, 14-25, 21-25.

Near the end of a back and forth first game, Hesston held a slight 24-23 lead, but the visitors stormed back with three straight points to grab a one-game lead. Heading in to the third game, the Larks found themselves down two games to none, but showed some resiliency by hanging around until the end of the third game.

Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) and Malerie Hertzler (Halstead, Kan.) each recorded seven kills, while Jenelle Jenkins (Aurora, Colo.) led with ten defensive digs. Sophomore setter Jo Carlson (Hillsboro, Kan.) paced the offense with 23 assists.
Hesston now heads to Vernon, Texas, for a weekend tournament, September 4-5.
