The Larks hosted Kansas Wesleyan (Salina, Kan) on Friday, September 25, battling hard on the rain soaked field before ending in a 0-0 tie following overtime. The Larks played great defense and had 12 shots but weren’t able to capitalize and put one in the net.
Hesston was led by sophomore Alex Steiner’s (Kidron, OH) five shots including an exciting one on goal just as time expired in OT where he lobbed the goalie but left it just high. Sophomore Paul Schrag (Hesston, KS) added three shots and freshman Dylan Simmons (Rose Hill, KS) added two, one of which was on goal.
“I felt that we were able to play with more intensity tonight,” said Head Coach Kurt Hostetler. “We definitely created quality scoring opportunities that we should have finished.”
The Larks freshman goalie Reid O’Brien (Hays, KS) saved all six shots on goal en route to his first collegiate shutout.
“Tonight’s overtime periods helped bring out the fire that this team has, and hopefully that will continue.” Hostetler said. “If we play with this much energy every time out, we should be able to get some wins.”
The Larks travel to Great Bend, KS on Monday, Sept 28 to take on the Barton County Community College Cougars. Hesston is trying to improve to 2-6-1 on Monday at 4:00 pm.
