Megan Gongwer, Hesston College forward, receives post-season soccer honors

Megan Gongwer, sophomore forward on Hesston College’s first women’s soccer team this past season, has received post-season honors. Gongwer, from Goshen, Ind., was named to the all-region (Region 6) second team (Division I, National Junior College Athletic Association).

Gongwer ended the season with 11 goals (including the historic first goal scored in the team’s first game, a 9-0 victory Friday, August 31) and 3 assists.

“Despite playing the entire season with ankle and knee injuries,” said Coach Kurt Hostetler, “Megan still had breakaway speed and was a constant threat to the other team’s defense.

“Being selected to the all-region team puts Megan in good company with other quality players,” Hostetler continued. “Having a selection from a first-year program is an honor and definitely shows promise for the future, but we can’t forget about her teammates who also did a great job of backing her up. In fact, I feel lucky to have had all the women who were a part of this team; they were the ones who helped make this season fun and successful.”

The women’s soccer team finished its season with a 6-6 record.
